When did National Buffet Day first begin?

We’re not entirely certain when National Buffet Day began.

The history of the buffet itself goes back to the 1600s, when Europeans began to offer breakfast foods on a sideboard for people to choose from, as breakfast was not commonly eaten together as a family. This was also called a smorgasbord.

In the late 1930s, the smorgasbord was introduced to the United States, and from its popularity, some restaurants began serving buffets. Buffet-style restaurants began to develop in the 1940s and continue to this day.
